Ubuntu 24.04 Brings Some Performance Gains For AMD Threadripper 7980X / System76 Thelio Major

NAS Parallel Benchmarks benchmark with settings of Test / Class: CG.C. Ubuntu 23.10 was the fastest.

Quicksilver benchmark with settings of Input: CORAL2 P2. Ubuntu 23.10 was the fastest.
NAMD benchmark with settings of Input: ATPase with 327,506 Atoms. Ubuntu 23.10 was the fastest.
NAMD benchmark with settings of Input: STMV with 1,066,628 Atoms. Ubuntu 23.10 was the fastest.

As the same GCC 13.2 compiler is in use as found on Ubuntu 23.10 and the AMD Zen 4 support already stable for a while in the kernel, for a number of the HPC/compute workloads there wasn't any major difference when switching to Ubuntu 24.04. But for those still using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS there is more to see with that upgrade due to the GCC 11 to GCC 13 transition and other updates over two years.

SVT-AV1 benchmark with settings of Encoder Mode: Preset 13, Input: Bosphorus 4K. Ubuntu 24.04 29 March was the fastest.
VVenC benchmark with settings of Video Input: Bosphorus 4K, Video Preset: Faster. Ubuntu 24.04 29 March was the fastest.
x265 benchmark with settings of Video Input: Bosphorus 4K. Ubuntu 24.04 29 March was the fastest.

For some of the computer workloads there were some minor performance improvements to find with Ubuntu 24.04 on this AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series workstation.
