AMD Ryzen 7 7840U Windows 11 vs. Linux CPU Performance
With the JPEG-XL image encoding benchmarks Ubuntu Linux was faster than the stock Windows 11 environment on this Acer Swift Edge 16. Interestingly the AMD Inception mitigations by default on the Linux kernels over the past week do make a difference here for the performance. Running Linux 6.5 Git but with the Inception mitigation disabled was yielding the best performance.
Ditto on the JPEG-XL decode side.
For WebP image encoding benchmarks Ubuntu 22.04 with the Linux 6.2 kernel was faster than Windows 11, but regressed under the Linux 6.5 Git kernel -- potentially due to the ACPI CPUFreq Schedutil to AMD P-State EPP default transition.
The TSCP chess benchmark was another workload showing lower performance on Linux 6.5 Git, regardless of Inception mitigation status.
