Samsung 860 QVO SSD Linux Benchmarks: 1TB SATA 3.0 SSD For $150 USD
With the Samsung 860 QVO 1TB SSD and a range of other SATA 3.0 and NVMe solid-state drives I had handy (along with a few SATA 3.0 HDDs), I ran some fresh benchmarks from the AMD Threadripper 2950X system running Ubuntu 18.10 with the Linux 4.20 kernel and having each drive formatted to using an EXT4 file-system.
The drives used for this Linux storage benchmarking roundabout included the:
- WD Green 1TB
- WD VelociRaptor 150GB
- Hitachi HUA72302 2TB
- Crucial MX300 525GB
- Toshiba TR-150 120GB
- Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
- Samsung 850 PRO 256GB
- Samsung 860 EVO 500GB
- Samsung 860 QVO 1TB
- Samsung 970 EVO 250GB
- Intel Optane 900p 280GB
The selection was driven by the drives I easily had available with storage benchmarks not being a primary focus at Phoronix and thus most of the drives being benchmarked are those that I have purchased myself. All of the tests were freshly done on the Threadripper 2950X system with Linux 4.20 on Ubuntu 18.10 with EXT4 for a bleeding-edge experience.
All of the Linux I/O storage benchmarks were carried out using the Phoronix Test Suite.
