From Whiskey Lake To Meteor Lake: The Intel CPU Linux Performance Evolution
Starting off with some web browser benchmarks under Google Chrome and Firefox, now having this multi-generation comparison we immediately see what various Windows reviews have also illustrated: for some single-threaded workloads the Core Ultra 7 Meteor Lake performance can fall behind prior generation Intel CPUs. In the case of the ARES-6 JavaScript benchmark the Core Ultra 7 155H performance on both Chrome and Firefox was comparable to the Tiger Lake Core i7 1185G7.
But at least the Core Ultra 7 155H was handling the workload much more efficiently than those prior generation Intel mobile CPUs.
In the Speedometer browser benchmark too the Core Ultra 7 155H was behind Alder Lake in raw performance but for power efficiency was at its best.
In the demanding JetStream 2 browser benchmark again the Alder Lake laptop tested delivered the best raw performance while Meteor Lake was doing better than that prior hybrid CPU for power efficiency. Surprisingly though of the laptops tested the Core i7 1065G7 was delivering the best performance-per-Watt in JetStream 2.
With WebAssembly benchmarks the Alder Lake laptop was outperforming Meteor Lake while the Core Ultra 7's SoC power consumption was much better and similar to that of the i7-1065G7 Ice Lake.
The Core Ultra 7 155H within the Acer Swift Go 14 was doing well for power efficiency but of the hardware tested the i7-1280P was leading in the browser benchmarks for Chrome and Firefox on Ubuntu Linux.
