Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series details

The Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series supports DDR5-5200 RDIMMs. Both the PRO and HEDT processors also allow for DDR5 RDIMMs with EXPO memory overclocking. AMD says there will be multiple different DDR5 RDIMM kits coming to market that do support EXPO overclocking.

Both the Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series and Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-series make use of the new sTR5 socket.

For multi-threaded workloads the new Threadripper PRO processors should be fantastic, going by my experience with the AMD Ryzen 7000 series and extensive AMD EPYC Genoa testing. Besides the higher core counts, the AVX-512 presence, switch to DDR5 (RDIMMs), and other Zen 4 improvements have me very excited for the new Threadripper processors.

The main downside is these new Threadripper processors and motherboards/systems won't be as cheap as with prior generations -- no motherboard / system pricing details were shared and only the Threadripper 7960X / 7970X / 7980X pricing was shared in advance. The flagship Threadripper 7980X will have a suggested price of $4999 USD, the 32-core Threadripper 7970X at $2499 USD, and the Threadripper 7960X at $1499 USD. The Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-Series pricing is still "to be determined". Pricing will be difficult for some enthusiasts but at least for professional users and creators able to benefit from the increased productivity and time savings for code compilation, rendering, and related tasks, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 WX-Series is already certain to be a phenomenal solution. Presumably the only broad area where Intel can come close to matching with Sapphire Rapids will be areas like AI for software able to leverage Advanced Matrix Extensions (AMX), but we'll know more once benchmarking the new Threadripper processors in the coming weeks. The Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series availability is set for 21 November.

Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series information

The features of the Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series certainly have me excited especially given the great success of the Ryzen 7000 series and EPYC 9004 series in the lab, but ultimately my main focus/value is on the Linux support and performance/benchmarks... For that you'll need to wait until next month before finding my usual extensive Linux performance benchmarking on Phoronix that will look at the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series.
