Radeon PRO W7700 side

The Radeon PRO W7700 should deliver much greater value than the NVIDIA Ada competition while according to AMD outperform them as well for SPECViewPerf, at least under Windows:

With the Radeon PRO W7700 launch, the PRO W7000 series is now quite well rounded with offerings from $429 to $3999 USD. The Radeon PRO W7700 will be available this quarter from AMD partners and Internet retailers.

Radeon PRO W7700 comparison

I have been running the Radeon PRO W7700 successfully under Ubuntu 23.10 and is running great with modern Linux distributions. Obviously the newer the Linux kernel and Mesa will mean the best user experience aside from those on enterprise Linux distributions sticking to the Radeon Software for Linux PRO driver packages. It's basically the same story as a few months back with the Radeon PRO W7500/W7600 delivering great open-source Linux support.

Radeon PRO W7700 back

So for those concerned about open-source OpenGL and Vulkan support in particular, everything is in great shape for day one support on Linux with the Radeon PRO W7700 series. One element that does remain somewhat iffy is the ROCm support. Of the Radeon Pro W7000 series, at the moment only the Radeon Pro W7900 series is officially supported for the ROCm compute stack. But with much in common with the rest of the Pro W7000 series, I have reached out to AMD to find out when they intend to officially support the rest of the Radeon Pro W7000 series with ROCm. I am still waiting to hear back on when there will be any official ROCm support planned for the W7700 and lower-tier parts.

For today's launch-day testing is a look at the Radeon PRO W7700 alongside the PRO W7600 and W7500 workstation graphics cards. Unfortunately, AMD didn't end up providing review samples to me of the PRO W7800/W7900 series and unfortunately lack access currently to the NVIDIA workstation current-generation offerings. So these tests are just done in evaluating the Linux support and looking at the PRO W7700 uplift compared to the lower-end W7500 and W7600 parts. For providing a very leading-edge look at the open-source driver support, Linux 6.5 atop Ubuntu 23.10 while using Mesa 24.0-devel from the Oibaf PPA was used for testing the Radeon Pro W7500 / W7600 / W7700 graphics cards. Thanks to AMD for providing the review samples for this launch-day Linux testing.
