SilverStone TP02-M2: An Aluminum Heatsink For Cooling An M.2 SSD

With the second TPO2-M2, I ran some tests using a 512GB Samsung 960 EVO on an AMD EPYC server.

The 960 EVO runs a bit cooler than the 950 PRO, but still it's quite a difference when under I/O workloads... Here the TP02-M2 led to the SSD running five degrees cooler.

With the 960 EVO the temperatures were lower though I didn't encounter any thermal throttling without a heatsink so the performance results were the same.

If you routinely are stressing an M.2 SSD with heavy I/O workloads, the SilverStone TP02-M2 is a practical option for helping to lower the drive's operating temperature to hopefully prolong its lifespan and in severe cases to prevent thermal throttling of the drive. At $16 USD, it's an affordable choice, very easy to mount the heatsink to a M.2 solid-state drive, and can be easily removed later on if needed. One of the retailers selling the TP02-M2 so far is NewEgg.com for $16.99.
