First up is DiRT Rally 2.0, the Windows game running great under Linux thanks to Proton+DXVK with Steam Play and rendered using Vulkan. The performance was effectively the same across the different desktop environments tested and even under GNOME Shell with Wayland. On this Vega graphics card all configurations had above 60 FPS and ranged from just 63~66 FPS.

When switching to the lighter-weight Dota 2 game with its OpenGL renderer, the performance still varied very little on Ubuntu 19.04.

Dota 2 with Vulkan was leading to a few frames higher performance on Ubuntu 19.04 with the Radeon RX Vega graphics card while between the different desktops there was still little in the way of any significant difference.

F1 2018, another game running on Linux thanks to Steam Play, saw very little difference between the desktops tested.
