When starting off with the startup-time test profile, the first tests run were looking at the amount of time needed to launch xterm and GNOME Terminal while there were sequential reads being carried out in the background. The Samsung 970 EVO Plus was much faster than the 970 EVO but understandably not quite as fast as the Samsung 970 PRO. The Samsung 970 EVO Plus did match the performance of the once mighty powerful Intel DC P3600 800GB solid-state drive.

The outcome was similar when looking at the time needed to launch LibreOffice Writer with reads happening in the background. The 970 EVO Plus does come out a great deal ahead of the 970 EVO 500GB model.

With reads and writes happening in the background, the Samsung 970 EVO Plus came out slightly ahead of the 970 PRO but the Intel SSDs were faster in this case.
