HP Dev One - A Great, Well Engineered AMD Ryzen Linux Laptop

The laptop is thick enough and with sufficient cooling that thermal throttling wasn't much of a factor, at least compared to the likes of some Dell XPS models and other ultra thin notebooks. Across the wide mix of single and multi-threaded workloads carried out, the HP Dev One under load did have an average of 85 degrees with a minimum of 38 degrees.

The Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U SoC power consumption ranged from 1.36 Watts up to 44.1 Watts at its peak when being really stressed, but most of the time under load was drawing around 24 Watts according to the RAPL data.

The Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U was successfully hitting its peak boost frequency of 4.4GHz but most of the time was running around 2.8GHz during the multi-threaded benchmarks. the Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U has a 4.4GHz maximum boost clock of 4.4GHz and advertised base clock of 1.9GHz.

For the Radeon graphics on the Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U SoC, when running demanding OpenGL and Vulkan benchmarks it had an average GPU core temperature of 71 degrees with a peak of 81 degrees and at idle was about 37 degrees.

Nothing out of the ordinary or hot about the NVMe solid-state drive temperatures across the benchmarking.
