Framework 13 With AMD Ryzen 7040 Series Makes For A Great Linux Laptop
For getting an idea of the Framework 13 AMD laptop performance potential, I benchmarked it against various other modern laptops I had locally for testing:
Dell XPS 13 9310 - Core i7 1165G7
MSI Prestige 14 Evo - Core i7 1280P
HP Dev One - Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U
ThinkPad X13 Gen3 - Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U
ThinkPad P14s Gen 4 - Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U
Acer Swift Edge 16 - Ryzen 7 7840U
Framework 13 - Ryzen 7 7840U
This was based on the laptops I had available so they could be all freshly re-tested on Ubuntu 23.10. The Framework 13 review unit was equipped with the Ryzen 7 7840U using integrated Radeon graphics, 16GB of RAM, 2256 x 1504 display, 512GB WD SN740 NVMe SSD, and MediaTek MT7922 WiFi.
In addition to looking at the raw benchmark results, the CPU power consumption for each of the laptops as exposed via the RAPL/PowerCap interfaces were monitored during the benchmarking process.
